  • Manuscript development is a detailed review and critique of your manuscript (typically a 2nd draft) that does not include any changes to the words you've written or any copy- or line editing. Instead, you will receive detailed positive and negative feedback on your work based on your expressed vision for the project that will help you write your next (or final) draft. Among other things, I will identify any potential plot holes, inconsistencies, underdevelopments, or concepts not easily understood by the everyday reader in order to guide you through your next phase of writing. Manuscript development is a holistic approach to creating a well-rounded manuscript that is ready to be submitted for professional editing.

This service includes two 30-minute Zoom call check-ins/updates.

If you purchase Manuscript Development services, all additional services for this project may be purchased at a 30% discount.

  • Line editing can sometimes be referred to as stylistic editing. While I will be searching for mechanical errors (as in copyediting), this process is more focused on presenting the reader with a precise and stylistically consistent reading experience.

The line editing process is a meticulous and detailed line-by-line examination of your work and will require communication between author and editor before the process is complete. The objective is to ensure that your unique "voice" is clearly conveyed without sacrificing intelligence and professionalism.

  • Copyediting ensures your writing is clear and comprehensible by identifying any issues with spelling, punctuation, and/or grammar. The copyediting process also focuses on readability for the everyday reader by identifying any potential lack in clarity. You will receive suggestions on ways to add variety to sentence structures, phrasing, and adjective choices. The overall objective is to polish your writing and provide you with a professional-level manuscript.

Unlike Line Editing, Copyediting does not place any emphasis on style or presentation but focuses on mechanical errors.

You can expect 2-4 check-ins/updates via text or email.

  • Proofreading is typically done in the final stages before printing or publishing a manuscript. Your document should be fully edited before submitting it for proofreading.

Proofreading is not editing. In the proofreading process, no changes to the content of your manuscript will be made or suggested. The only objective will be to identify any glaring or egregious spelling, punctuation, or layout errors.

Proofreading may be done prior to printing (but after formatting) or after hardcopy proofs are received. It is recommended that you have your book proofread at both stages, as printing errors are not uncommon.

If you purchase proofreading services, additional proofreading for your project may be purchased at a 75% discount.

What my clients are saying…

  • Mattlock London—Fiction Author

“Kalea’s ability to understand the writer’s voice during the editing process is invaluable—especially when it comes to writing fiction. I'd recommend her, and then recommend her again (fully knowing you heard me clearly the first time). Honestly though, look no further. You’ve found your editor.”
